Massage

Massage is offered in the clinic to either heal or prevent an injury in conjunction to acupuncture sessions. Massage is offered at subsequent treatments only, after an Initial Acupuncture consultation session has been undertaken.

As with acupuncture, our main aim is to move the Qi and blood to enhance circulation and thus heal the body.  Through movement tests and palpation, we assess tight or contracted muscles, trigger points, degeneration, altered sensations (paraesthesia), trigger points and inflammation. Usually these locations can be predictable and coincide with acupuncture points. Sometimes pain may be referred, felt somewhere different from where it is caused.

While most clients enjoy a medium to deep pressure, the degree and depth of massage is tailored to the individual.  It is not uncommon for a client to feel mild discomfort in order to improve health. This feeling can last up to 24 hours after the treatment.

In conjunction to acupuncture treatments, massage can assist the following conditions (but not limited to):

  • Repetitive strain injuries: tennis elbow, golfers elbow
  • Lower back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Headaches
  • Neck and jaw pain
  • Trigger points (nodules or bands) found in muscles
  • Cramps
  • Tight muscles (e.g. buttocks, lower back, shoulders, legs)
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Foot /ankle disorders: Achilles tendon, plantar fasciitis.
  • Sports prevention / Increase flexibility.
